10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Growing Your Own Microgreens

10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Growing Your Own Microgreens

Hey Hamama Friends!

Want to learn more about the joys and benefits of growing your own microgreens? We’re here with some interesting facts that will have you wanting to expand your microgreen garden even more.

🌱 No soil needed

  • The Hamama kit is hydroponic. This just means that it only needs water to grow our microgreen Seed Quilts.
  • Our kit has a natural coconut fiber to give the roots something to grow into and a covering that mimics soil during the germination phase.
  • The seeds are packed with enough nutrition that they do not need additional sources in their first two weeks (microgreens are harvested within that time frame).

🌱 Microgreens and sprouts are different

  • Sprouts are the first visible stage of germination & microgreens are the next stage (after the first set of true leaves shows, but before the second set).
  • Sprouts take under a week to grow while microgreens take around 7-21 days, depending on the variety.
  • Unlike microgreen seeds, sprout seeds are grown in water and need to be rinsed 2X a day to ensure that they do not mold.
  • Many studies have shown that microgreens are more nutrient dense than their younger (sprouts) & older (baby greens or full-grown vegetables) selves.

🌱 Easy Setup

  • No extra equipment needed. Just water once then place your kit on your countertop or in a room with regular ceiling lighting and watch your home garden sprout to life within a week! 🌱

🌱 The freshest you can get

  • Microgreens and microherbs are very delicate and are often even seen going bad on supermarket shelves - such a short shelf life when your greens aren’t grown on the spot!
  • Growing veggies in your home mean you get the freshest, longest-lasting microgreens you could possibly get.
  • Growing your veggies indoors means you won’t have to worry about pests contaminating your greens either. Grow produce you can trust.

🌱 Microgreens are a super nutritious superfood

  • In some cases up to 40x more nutritiously dense than their mature versions!
  • While small in physical size, microgreens have highly concentrated amounts of vitamins such as vitamins C, E, and K as well as lutein and beta-carotene.
