World food day is a campaign to raise awareness around world hunger and food security issues.
The United Nation Organization's Food and Agriculture Association (FAO) was established on 16th October in 1945. To commemorate this day, World Food Day is celebrated every year on October 16th with a new theme. Though it was originally meant to mark the day that the FAO was established, World Food Day eventually became a way to raise awareness about hunger, malnutrition, sustainability and food production.
This is the second time that World Food Day is falling at a time when countries all over the world are reeling from the impact of Covid-19. Last year, the theme was βGrow, Nourish, Sustain. Together.β This was decided due to the suffering of millions during the pandemic.
This year, the focus is on celebrating food heroes or those who have contributed to creating a sustainable world where no one goes hungry. We can all be food heroes and contribute to building a hunger-free world.
